SHWTW was founded by Gregg & Caroline Marston after they visited the Duc Son Orphanage in Hue, Vietnam in 2016. They were moved by what they saw and experienced and they wanted to find a way to give back to children in need. They decided to have sail bags manufactured by Vietnamese women needing work, sell the bags in the USA, then donate 100% of the proceeds to the orphanage. They have raised and committed over $24,500.

All of these beautiful sail bags are as unique as the sails from which they were made. The material for these bags is used sailcloth recycled from a variety of special family sailboats and other well-traveled sailboats.

Giving back and making our world a better place is incredibly important to Gregg & Caroline and the mission behind Shake Hands with the World. They are thrilled to announce that they’ve partnered with their daughter’s active travel company, Pathways, for a fun and meaningful giveaway.

Pathways does their best to create life-changing experiences for their travelers that also give back to the world. For every trip, they donate a portion of the profits to local conservation efforts & communities they visit. Whenever and wherever they go, the goal is to leave these local destinations better than when they found them, minimizing their footprint as much as possible.

Beyond being connected to Shake Hands with the World via family, Pathways has a couple of direct connections to this special organization.

First: the Marston family’s boat, Querencia, sailed (with a few Marstons and family friends on board) last summer from Maine to the Azores Islands in Portugal. Many of the SHWTW sail bags are made from Querencia’s old sails. The Pathways team, after greeting the sailors after their two-week transatlantic journey, scouted the Azores Islands and now have some great itinerary options for exploring this special place.

Second: Pathways organized a trip for a wonderful family to visit Thailand & Vietnam last year. Part of the family’s trip was dedicated to visiting the Duc Son Orphanage in Vietnam. This connection and a donation from Pathways have directly helped support SHWTW and their generous & meaningful efforts.
